I was going to post this on sin bin but as its specific to Hull put on here.

Wondered if anyone else has come the conclusion that the road surfaces throughout Hull are a disgrace. It seems there are potholes literally everywhere. The Avenues areas and around the hospital are particularly poor. The main Hedon road roundabouts between the prison and salt end are also very poor. There must be other areas not frequented by me that are just as bad.

As a motorcyclist I used to only notice these holes when on my bike but there are some real bone shakers even in my car. The cost of repair would be in the many thousands of pounds. I know its just after the winter and that potholes have a habit of breaking open due to frost etc but even given all of that I cannot remember a time they were quite so in need of repair and on such a scale.

I have claimed in sin bin topics that perfectly good tarmac should be put into potholes rather than used to make speed humps, some of which are now beginning to be a danger in themselves as some have big holes in them. I have had two springs gone in my car in recent weeks due to these holes and humps.

Should the council put more effort into making our roads safe and on a wider topic, wouldnt the money invested in the "Camera safety Partnership" (from wherever that budget comes from), and the road safety (speed humps, plastic chevrons everywhere you look etc) be better spent on making the roads sfaer for us all rather than trying to target the few who creep over the speed limits?

bankside is terrible, i understand that in the past it was mainly a route for industry, but is now a popular route for a lot of people.

Priory road up towards the police station is also shocking!

Agree with you about hedon road it's shocking thought it was the highways agency who are responsible for this road though?

Was once told by a councilor friend that on average the roads in Hull are re-surfaced once every 98 years  ( or thats what it would equate to )

I'm gonna spit all over you, by accident of course.

I have to admit I have no idea where these budgets come from or who is responsible but whatever it is or whoever it is, I just feel something is wrong when we all travel on these roads yet whoever seems hell bent on placing money in the wrong areas. Road safety should not be just about speed reduction and awareness, it has to be about making the roads sfare to negotiate.

Hedon road roundabouts are abysmal as you say. For a biker I would suggest even life threatening.

I was thinking about this again this morning. I was driving back down 'The Avenues' towards Chants ave and what a joke it was down there. Also round my area (Bricknell ave) is just as bad also. Alot of the pot holes have yellows paint markings around them, so I'm guessing they are going to be sorted. When is another matter though.

To be honest many of the areas are bad are due in a number of cases to the flooding and the damage this has caused not only to the road surface but to the ground underneath. All they can do for the moment is try to patch them up until they have the money to do them properly from scratch.

Granted our roads aint great but they certainly are not the worst around the country.

I really enjoy long walks especially when they are taken by people I don't like!

In all fairness i cannot disagree, i dont own a full driving lesson as of yet for going through red lights and all kinnds of things like

But the roads are very very poor! Like you said Wildey Banksides very poor but there's even surfaces that have only been re-laid recently in the past year or so that are crumbling...

City Council need to take action to be fair.
