A great club that I’ve played against when I was younger. The team was friendly along with the banter in the WMC. I just wish everyone good luck associated with the club and I hope things can get back on track soon as this club is one of the many great clubs that make up the Leeds Grassroots rugby league community!

Good call damo i saw part of a feature on this during calendar the other day their stuck in a battle to save the club-house iirc.
Hopefully they'll win the battle and stay open.

t'would indeed be a shame.

But now I'm going to be contraversial and ask does anyone outside of the club give a flying one ?

Do the RFL help in any way ?

I don't know the answer as I'm not involved in amatuer RL at all, well apart from those winter bench jackets for a summer sport that are still unworn in the box, but still...

But what I am involved with in a small way (but my brother is involved in a much bigger way) is the organisation involved in running a local rugby union club of what I guess is roughly the same size as East Leeds - and I can tell you, its pretty impressive.

Not just central funding, but access and directives on how to obtain loans and grants - last year a £1000 grant was made available to any sporting club who applied for it, it was publicised on here, I don't know if any amatuer RL clubs applied but I forwarded details to the RU club I'm involved with for we have a dedicated contact who deals with these things, he thanked me and applied immediately, we got the grant - little things like knowing who to contact and knowing that they'll do something about it is what makes the difference.

The club I'm involved with has not gone as far as Sandal or West Park Bramhope in turning themselves into centres of excellence by means of community sports loans (Stanningley did the same) but even so they have access to other funding from some very imaginitive sources and I just wonder if the RFL have the same contacts or abilities or even the will to attract such funding.

WPB looks amazing for a club so far down the pecking order, I beleive that was much to do with cash from the sale of the old roundhay ground.

it is a shame. east leeds have had many players sign for professional club's over the years my mate's son captained them for years, i was talking to the secretary of our club and he told me it can cost upto £10k to run 2 open age teams per season and we have to make £350 on a home game to break even with all the outgoings refs, touch judges, physio, food, programmes, strapping ect.

And the tie-in with our old friends from Carnegie ?

They are causing problems within the league structure though in that they are drawing in youngsters from other clubs because of their facilities, its not a crisis yet but most Leeds clubs are noting it, on the other hand a bit of competition never did any harm and too many kids in some year groups mean less game time for many.

That and the fact that everyone loves to put one over on them (and Sandal) now

Ah East Leeds The Home Of One Of My Strangest Performances But One Of The Most Thrilling Games On A Rugby League Pitch...
After "Scoring" A Spectacular 50 Yard Effort Although Never Actually Grounding The Ball But The Ref Was 30 Meters Away So Give It, Then Dropping The Ball In Open Space With The Try Line Beckoning, Then East Leeds Took The Lead With A Try With About 8 Minutes To Go But Then Decide To Tap A Penalty Instead Of Taking The Two Leaving The Score Something Like 24-20 With About 2/3 Minutes To Go Only For Us To Reach The Half Way Line Then Launch A Bomb Up Field Which The Full Back Missed So One Of Our Players Gathered The Ball Made A Couple Of Meters Up Field Then Managed To Offload The Ball To One Of Our Guys To Go In Near The Sticks Resulting In A 24-26 Victory!... :D

Correct.

Quote:Every player in our squad could probably earn more money with another club. But they prefer to sacrifice a few extra quid in their back pocket to share special memories. And playing at a place like Old Trafford on a night like this makes it all worthwhile.
