The community project is being supported by Rochdale MP Paul Rowen and he hopes that it will encourage closer links between local schools, the Asian community and rugby league.

I know the club do well with the Schools work but maybe the club needs to work at getting Asians playing and Watching Rugby League. There are some like Junaid at Elland who play League and are very good at it whilst others do watch Fax. However for me its still a large untapped market

we have 6 first team players who spend almost every day in schools in calderdale . . we have Mission Nutrient a healthy eating lesson which goes out to every year 5 class in calderdale, delivered by players . . we have rugby training courses,. . we have Cheerleader classes which have Asian participants. . . . . we have at least two Asian rugby players on our Scholarship. . .I believe we are doing much much more than Rochdale

Was not having a go and have said the club do much good work in the Schools but feel the game as a whole can do more to involve Asians and get them playing/watching League

Thats excellent but the club needs to self pubicise itself better then because I obviously werent the only one who didnt know about it.

Goes back to my point about the Bradford article in the Courier last week, either Bradford have a good PR department which obviously they should being a SL club or the Courier took it upon themselves?
We have to remember that we are only a part time club and yer it should not be an excuse but some staff work voluntarily. Maybe we could do better I agree but thats again my point the Courier as sponsor could help them out maybe?

Bradford will have a good PR department. It goes without saying. I assume they have a full time person to do press releases, the website, matchday programmes, etc.

Surely someone in the office can manage a bit of self promotion of the club's community work? It is something the club should be proud of and something people should be told about.

Maybe 'Fax could create a similar 'voluntary' position? It would obviously have to be a watered down role with maybe free admission in to home and away games as the reward and some freebie kit thrown in?

As for the Courier, I assume they will print anything the club sends them. But you cant expect them to do all the work

The club does do alot of good work but often we do not hear ENOUGH about it as this thread seems to show. The Courier likely will not ring up the club and say "Do you have any news Stories for us"? The club needs to promote more some of the things going on. The club needs to let us and especially the courier the development work that it does more and also that we have 2 Asian lads on scholarship. Being a small club with less money and smaller budger than Hudds and Bradford means we are handicapped to an extent. However the club and the game itself needs to get more in the community as we can never be 100% happy with where we are. Congrats to the club and players with the work-just let us hear more about it especially through the Courier.

My sentiments exactly. I am in my 19th year of following Halifax and I try to pick up on most things that are going on via the internet and press, but I was unaware that this level of work was going on?

I've always heard its a good scheme (from people at the club) and it was mentioned at the shirt launch night that the community work was a big factor in the club winning the Club of the Year award. (Helped massively by the partnership with Eureka) But I don't actually know what the programme consists of.

Perhaps, on the free weekend we have (second bye, think its near the end of may) the club could hold an open day at The Shay to showcase this, as well as a public training session and a BBQ and stuff, could be a good little fund raiser and give the club the chance to show off what it does off the field to people who wouldn't normally see.
