That was a brilliant night. I remember after that it took years for a wire/wigan match to be shown on sky again as Eddie & Stevo spent most of the match apologising to viewers as we belter seven shades out of the pies! Sibbet scoring in the corner after about 45 seconds and us going wild thinking we were going to win the league..

That season we were battling most games iirc and beat all the top 4/5 teams at wilderspool in an Alfie inspired whirlwind of attacking Rugby, great times! Even Alan Hunte looked good.

Also the team spirit that year was immense.

Yes but who decides who are the 'watchers' and who are 'appreciators'? I assume you consider yourself the latter as will most fans.

Bang on, sticks in my throat too. Briers spoke out about the boo boys and expressed his gratitude towards the fans who stick by the team and his (admittedly clumsily put) words were twisted against him and he was turned into a hate figure. Matt King reacts to fans with an offensive hand gesture and x rated words but because he apologised is suddenly a hero. Bizarre.

Anyhow, apparently Barrow coach Dave Clark has dismissed the rumours about Briers going up there.

Thank god for that we can all move on.

I reckon Briers has been one of the best 3 players at the club during every season he has been here - that's impressive by anyone's standards.

He didn't get many chances at international level, so it's hard to judge how good he could have been, but I do remember him having an absolute blinder for Wales against Australia in the World Cup, when a team made up of mainly NL players gave the World Champs a real scare.
