Augustus "Gus" Risman Taken from "Rugby renegade"
Quote-"The present side is young and often suffers from inexperience. But there is no easy road to success in sport, and these youngsters have to have their chance. They have to gain experience and learn the hard way. They are all tremendously keen and willing to learn, so it is now up to the supporters to be patient, to allow these young players time to develop. And during that development period the lads do need some encouragement. May everybody who watches salford remember that Rome wasnt built in a day, and neither was any successful rugby league team . And no succesful rugby league team wa built without encouragement from its supporters.
There are quite a few choice quotes in Rugby Renegade that reflect some things never change. Other pearls of wisdom include where he points out Salford people will not persist in watching a losing team, and that confusion reigns over Salford being a city in its own right, independent of Manchester. Bear in mind, this book was written over 50 years ago.

After fridays defeat i was so deflated again with watching my beloved team being so woeful in defence and the tactics if you can call them that were so appalingly executed that i questioned whether or not salford are ever going to break the duck of being easy beats every single year. I feel a total overhaul is in urgent need the small support we already have will begin to dwindle when we are being served up so much utter tripe! I would like to see John Kear as coach OR Justin Morgan proven coaches who will get the best out of limited resources . Im afraid Shaun has had enough time... I dread to think how the rest of the season will pan out. P.s God bles Gus Risman. Also how tough did Lance Todd sound ...
Dexter - its alright saying all this but can you find someone to pay off Shaun`s 2 years left on the contract? Its a no brainer so we have to ram home to Shaun the fact that Salfords supporters will cope with failure from their home grown talent BUT not from the overpaid, overhyped Antipodeans brought to the club.

Since we're busy quoting from the great man's book my favourite:-
Quote:Team spirit without competent players is as useless as star players without team spirit and a team plan. You must have the players, you must have the plan and you must have the team spirit

Good, fair point, Maybe we should throw caution to the wind and blood our crop of talented yongsters now which will allow them to learn the hard way and progress whilst there isnt threat of relegation, the likes of wiper, marlon alker, jack spencer, andrew thornley.Lets go for it it would give us a great indication for our future prospects. !

What are you trying to do?get us the record for points against in a season. The players you have mentioned are struggling at reserve team level and are getting hammered every week. How many fans would pay £15 to watch the reserves?3-400 if we are lucky. The best of the younger players,Myler,Ratchford,Turner,Sidlow,Adamson are all getting their chance,Let the others learn in the reserves. We have to respect the competition that is Super League and field our best available team every week,I doubt that the RFL looking kindly on a reserve team turning out every week just because it's made up of young English players, most of who won't make the grade.
Don't forget, one of the criteria for the next round of licences is a top eight finish. Let the coach do his job, give him time then if we don't improve, replace him

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done But he with a chuckle replied That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried. So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin On his face. If he worried he hid it. He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn’t be done, and he did it!
