SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done But he with a chuckle replied That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried. So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin On his face. If he worried he hid it. He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

with regard to the thread title, why don't we concentrate on the 4 nations first?
small steps with terms to international rugby league.
the semi-final attendances for the first union world cup in the rugby union mad country of new zealand were 17.768 and 22,576 and one of those games involved the hosts.

Made me laugh yesterday when the commentater to the RU game said, 'who said nil nil can't be exciting' , it was crap, they was stood about most of the time. How that game gets good attendences i'll never know.
Stick with the Four Nations first. We can develop a rivalry with the French then. France need a second SL team though so they can be more competitive and the game can get more interest there so that there is actually an event happening. The French don't have the same advantage as the Kiwis, as there aren't a load of French at English SL clubs (unlike in the NRL with the Kiwis).
In the mean-time, we've got the Euro-Nations Cup underneath the 4 nations that is developing those nations. In time we can add the winners of that to the 4N, develop a bit more, have some friendlies with teams other than France, introduce Championship/SL sides to our competitions, etc. But there is absolutely no point in having a competition where the winner will 100% be one team and that team will pretty much win all of their games. Australia may be dominant, but they are beatable (which has been proven). No European team has a chance against England at the moment.
We had a six nations tournament a few years ago, just with Russia instead of Italy, and called the European Nations Cup. It did not raise the profile nor did it see tens of thousands of fans from around the home nations flocking to see it.
