Gascoigne had one when he was in his early 20s he was never the same player again - Diskin was only in his early 20s and he isn't anywhere near the player he once was - Mathers the same too I think age has little do with it - a torn cruciate doesn't seem to heal as new and the loss of lateral movement at speed is significant
