As part of a major day of sport in Keighley the town’s only professional Rugby League club Keighley Cougars will be staging a ‘Family Fun’ day on Sunday, March 22.
The event will be held in the run up to the club’s opening Co-operative Championship One game against Oldham.
The ‘Family Fun day’ will be held in conjunction with the Keighley 10-kilometre Road Run which starts at Marley Stadium.
Helen Carter, the Cougars’ General Manager, said: “We at Cougars pride ourselves in being among the leaders of community sport delivery in Keighley and district while Rugby League is also known as a family sport.
“We wanted to join the two concepts together so that families have an opportunity to enjoy themselves together; experience basic sports and take part in what should be one of the most exciting days in the Cougars calendar.
“We’ve put together an exciting combination of activities that all the family can share after they’ve been to either take part in of watch the road run. It should be a wonderful day out for everybody”.
The Family Fun Day will include face painting; an opportunity to tackle the Rugby League Skills Zone inflatable and take part in a skills session with some of the Cougar players.
The club’s giant furry mascot Freddie Cougar, who has just completed a gruelling six-week fitness course to keep his job, will be in attendance and other attractions will include an opportunity to get up close to a real fire engine.
Add in the extra entertainment of stilt walkers and street performers and it becomes a fantastic day out for all the family at Cougar Park.
You can also meet the kids from the Keighley’s version of ‘The Apprentice’. Cougar Pride, the club’s independent educational establishment has been running a marketing module for school children and the children, who have taken part in the course, will be displaying their work and results at the Family Fun Day.
The Family Fun Day will start at 12.00pm and continue until 2.00pm. The Cougar’s first league game of the season will then kick off at 3.00pm.

A big disappointment to me is to miss the game due to a family celebration.
This season, with changing my job, I expected to get to all the home games at least and now have to miss what I think will be a cracking game and a good bench mark for the season ahead.
So go on and enjoy the day, the Cougars win, it lovely and sunny, the beers flowing well and everyones happy ( leave the ref alone!).
Happy Day!!
regards
and ENJOY your sport
