By the way I was in homebush on on saturday, and before the manly and dogs game went to the pub to watch the warriors and parra game,they had one TV for yawnion and the other for League .The whole crowd was watching league, the union nada.

Was reading somewhere that someone who grew up liking American football could relate to rugby league more than rugby union. I don’t think rugby league will ever be as big as American football over there but I do think in the next ten years we can see crowds of around 10k flocking to the stadiums which is a start.

i heard at the wknd, and it's been doing the rounds on here that francois isnt coming back from down under.

American [Rugby League] History
In 1939 the Californian Rugby Football Union wrote to the RFL to tell them they wanted to switch from rugby union and affiliate to the RFL. In June 1939 the RFL made plans to send a delegation out to California but were unable to do so due to the outbreak of World War Two.

In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911.
