I didn't get to the Hull game (by all accounts he looked a bit sharper at the KC) but he looked very slow and unfit against Leigh and Wakey. To me he just isn't physically up to it at the moment.

At the minute Smith does not deserve to be in the 17 but he will get another chance over the next few weeks. Tomkins is not going to play every game.
If Smith steps up to the mark and produces the goods then its only for the good of the squad.
He is an out and out scrum it is a waste of time playing him at 6 which is poor management from Nobby.
I think Tomkins at 6, Smith at 7 and Tommy off the bench at 9 will be our best combination by the end of the season. Tommy is having a blinding season but for me he is a good scrum half but a world class 9 and if McIllorum has to miss out then so be it. Hes good but nout special.

It seems to me that Tommy aint getting the credit or RESPECT he deserves at 7. for me he has been our standout player this year and one of the best last year. his passing has improved greatly and he no longer relies on that predictible kick to the corner on the 5th. he has shown in recent weeks that his offencive game has upped massively and he is now looking to take on the opposition a lot more (perhaps he has a bit of swagger about him, a bit more confidence after all he should as a WC winner). also his defence is always solid and he loves putting the BIG shots in. i would love to see him and Sam our 6 & 7 for years to come. they compliment each other well. smith, alought a fantastic player , should be a backup player. after all, he has hardly said he want to be at wigan for life and will more than likely shoot back to Aus when his contract expires. we have to think about ourselfs and our future, not him.

I think someone on here has Smith as their picture, but when he was back playing for Parramatta.
Even looking at that you can see he was just a bigger build back then. When I saw him at Leigh pre-season I was amazed how slight he'd become. I know how big you are isn't the be all and end all for an RL player, but it's not like he's whippet fast like Sam Tomkins is it to compensate? (Who can tackle as well I should add)
I still think some of the touches you see from him are different class, but the physicality is missing and he gets found out.
