Tomahawks' critics can't see the big picture: Parramatta winger and USA Tomahawks five-eighth Matt Petersen has denounced critics of league's American experiment as narrow-minded.
He believes the game there could take off in a big way.
"In the short term they could make something solid out of the game and over time it could become very successful," Petersen said.
"It depends on money and getting the right people interested.
"If a Rupert Murdoch or someone like that happened to see the game [between the Tomahawks and Australia] and thought, 'Gee, that looked pretty good', it could be a start.
"Soccer never used to be a big sport in the US, but then they got the money in and it became a professional sport and now they go to the World Cup.
"There's no reason their league team can't get to the World Cup if they keep improving."
In the game in Philadelphia the week before last, the Australians trailed 24-6 at half-time before lifting enough to win 36-24.

Jacksonville has its own rugby team, they played in the American league final, and Jacksonville can have a little place in the world of rugby. The former international centre and New York City public-works big shot said Matt Cooper had a step "like Fred Astaire", wondered at the strength of prop "Peteero Civonisensia", and hyped up the crowd about "Will Mason", "Shane Timmons" and "The Truck" O'Meley.
Those who were there seemed to love it - despite the rain in the final quarter - and, while it looked like a 5000 crowd, NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley said the figure was more like 8000.
"The amount of publicity we got for the game over the past week ... was really satisfying given the profile of the game in this country," said Annesley, who said before the match it could have attracted 20,000.

you need to develop a sport from the grass roots before it can succeed... that means getting the schools to play and developing a fan base.
you cant just plonk a pro sport team into alien territory and expect it to work.
stop dreaming about world domination you little napoleons and concentrate on saving the existing league clubs about to go broke.
