Wires71 wrote:I agree with the first bit. The way I sell it to myself is that I support the Warrington RLFC club and all that it has represented through the years, the fine players we have had grace the shirt, and the wonderful memories both on and off the field I have had. The current players are just temporary custodians of the shirt. On Saturday they let themselves and our club down. Anyway I supported Wire long before Briers, Monaghan, King, and god willing, will support long after they have left.

In relation to the second point, I didn't see many, if any, of the people you refer to in your post at Harlequins. Just simple working-class folk, frustrated at what they saw but committed enough to make a 400 mile round trip. In my opinion they were entitled to vent their spleen within reason.

I never said people shouldn't vent their frustration, it's their money, they can do what they like with it. It's the way they do it and why they do it. You get the morons venting their frustration before a ball is kicked? It happens regularly, players being booed when their name is read out. What is the motivation for that?

It's hardly surprising there wasn't a great amount in London, I missed for the first time in years, love the day out and would have gone again if the mates had of been up for it, but wasn't going on my jack. But take last week against Leeds, incessant abuse of players all through the second half, and the amount of minutes missed by people going the bar/bog is unbelievable, it's like the rugby is actually secondary to why they are there.

I'm not being funny, but if I felt the need to abuse players on the basis that those who stand around me do, I wouldn't be there in the first place as I would have reached my tether long before and stopped going. Why go to the game and do nothing but moan and abuse. What enjoyment can they get out of doing that. It was never this bad at Wilderspool when the crowds were lower and mayb the expectations were lower.

I'm not happy with what I see on the pitch at the moment, but I don't feel the need to spew stale lager over those in front of me as if to show I'm more upset than anyone else. I don't feel the need to use extremely abusive language when their are kids and women around me, especially if they were my own. But that is the type of people who we have watching us, not all, nowhere near a majority, but more than enough whether we go home or away to actual spoil the enjoyment for me and others, no matter what goes on on the pitch. We actually do our best to get a spec away from the Wire supporters as much as we can.

We tried a few other places in the South Stand, didn't seem to matter and as you say, you are never too far away from a rat. Even considered joining the old fogies in the North Stand, but that wasn't possible due to one of the mates not getting a season ticket.

Oh, and I'm a working class person brought up on a council estate, but I don't act like that, class, in that respect has nothing to do with it, it's about respect for people around you, something sadly lacking amongst some of our fans.

Fair enough Keith, I know where you are coming from, and do not condone the actions you state above. I guess I don't pick up on it as I typically sit in the North or stand in the West stand where you tend to get a more measured response from the fans. All I know is that Wire were heartily cheered onto the field at Harlequins. The derision came when it was clear that the players were not putting it in.

I understand why people moan and boo. They love the club but have no feeling of togetherness or respect for some of the players. Some of it with good reason. It's a paradox in that respect.

In closing I will say that rough language at a game is an occupational hazard and one of the reasons I don't take my child. I don't believe it holds a candle to some of the vile, hateful, vitriol you get at Premiership football matches though.

Agreed mate.

Oh and I will be there on Sunday...why wouldn't I be?!
If nothing else it gives my vocal chords a good work-out!

I got to page 4 and still wanted to post the same thing.

When Wigan were in deep doo doo a couple of years ago, their fans got behind the club in numbers, so much so, a couple of years later, they still have their own squad number.

Yet our fans are concentrating all of there effort on slagging off the players and other fans to actually give a damn about the club

I know we're supposed to hate Wigan, but surely we aren't doing the complete opposite to what they did just for that reason?

I don't want a squad number for the fans, but I want to look back in 2 years and not be ashamed by the actions of the fans.

I've had enough of self-pitying threads like this.

Do the honours, Mods.

Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.
