Lockers - International, great defense, good hands and good attack. You say average.

Bailey - Average good defence, you can't pay for world class in every position.

Coley - You say should be hardworking and no place at Wigan. Unfortuanately he's not the greatest, but again with the cap not all positions can be full of Petero Civoniceva's.

Roberts - average so far, about one high ball he made a mess of. I take it you were writing Piggy off in his first game? Again, another international.

Tomkins (s) - You say overrated. When was the last time you saw a 19 year old play this well at Wigan? For his age he is awsome and has kept Smith out of the side who is apparently one of the best.

Just remember, this is a reason we have only won twice all season.

The reason Wigan have only won twice is because you think the fans overrate players? That makes no sence at all.

Hock - on more than one occasion last season: Wigan struggling for possession, numerous drop-outs and repeat sets of 6 to defend.... Wigan finally get the ball and get in an attacking position well into the game, Wigan are behind but the game is far from over, Hock runs to dummy half after the 2nd tackle, no pressure, knocks on... scrum? only if he can keep his gob shut and not give a penalty away ... One of the most over-rated players ever to wear a Wigan shirt, seems stronger this year but still doesnt have 2 brain cells to rub together and will continue to lose his composure when it matters and lose us games... Against Leeds his mistakes may have been due to ball stealing, but why Hock and nobody else? Probably because Leeds watch the video's and know he has the ball security of a 9 year old... most players would learn from their mistakes and hold the ball a bit tighter, unfortunately you can't educate pork. And why would he need to work hard to improve when he can make a glaring error and still get picked the following week?

My mistake, I thought he had played in the 2008 WC. He's played for Country Origin though, so clearly in the "above average" crowd for the NRL.

Oh and well done people for not mentioning the other players I mentioned.

Lets just focus on Hock hey.

cadoo wrote:As the team gets more desperate so does Hock because he is trying anything to lift the team and create something because he knows he is one of Wigan's few "go to" players. He is a world class player and one of the best second row forwards in super league and has one of the best offloads in the game. In a Saints or Leeds side he would be devastating. Although he has his moments of madness he is not overrated.

Andy Coley and Phil Bailey's contracts are up at the end of the year - and this gives us chance to get rid of some of the average players in our side along with Cameron Phelps, Tim Smith and Richie Mathers.

I honestly believe that for as long as Brian Noble is here Stuart Fielden will be here.

Harrison Hansen I would agree with. His defense is great but in attack he offers little. Although against Bradford he did run some good lines in attack. He needs to improve in time for when his contract runs out as he will come under pressure from Lee Mossop and Liam Farrell in the reserves.

Sean O'loughlin would not recieve half the amount of stick he does if he wasn't the Wigan captain. He does not have the attributes IMO to be a captain and because of the pressure of this responsibility he tries to do too much during games which leads to errors and silly plays. Without this pressure we could see a much better Sean O'loughlin. He is an international quality player IMO.

Say what you like about Sinfield, I dont think there are many Leeds fan who would get get rid of him. Especially not in a swap for Hock.

I think this entire thread proves my point.

Look at our record this season, look at who we've lost to. That's the only stat you need to focus on.

Head needs to be removed from sand. Why do you think our record isn't that great? Not the management, the players. Week in week out people come on here and 'big up' players who are just average and would easily slot into Wakey or Huddersfield.

Yes Hock is our best attacking backrower, but some of his mistakes are bad. For that reason he isn't as good as people make out.
I stand by my comments. I knew many would misinterpret my comments regarding Sam Tomkins. I never said he wasn't good or wouldn't be great. But people on here bang on about how good he was against Leeds, when in truth he didn't do much.

I don't expect him to just yet he's only young. But lets not say the kids great when he simply wasn't.

I now I expect an argument of 'who actually said he was great' Which is the sort of pedantic reply many on here reply with missing the entire point.

I know the coaching staff isn't the issue, Noble basically has done what all fans want.

I agree with some of your posts i really do but how can the coaching staff not be 2 blame also? What is your opinion of our coaching staff if you analyse it in the same way you did the first team? What has Pendlebury or Vievers ever achieved in the game?

On Friday not only were we out classed by the players but we were truly out coached as well- The move five and hold defence which invites teams to attack us? Feka and Hock starting meaning we brought Coley and Hansen on for impact? Noble can get a reaction from the team cause we always see it at HT why tho is it never from the start? Why does out team not support the ball carrier like they did against Bradford?

Why in the first few games did we not have a recognised replacement hooker or HB on the pitch? Why is last season runner up to the YP player of the year award and our top forward try scorer last season struggling to start games? Is Lockers really playing that well that he can't be pushed up to the 2nd row?

I reckon the issue is that people rate players on their best games. No Wigan player is overrated based on the performances shown in the play-offs last year and against bradford this. It is just consistently performing to the standards we CAN acheive that is the issue.

There are plenty of other threads about Noble and I don't want to turn this into another one, but surely the issue with the current team is that the whole is not equal to the sum of its potential parts.
