Creative, links in well as an extra half, hits the gaps well, returns the ball with interest and is a good last line of defence.
Several kicks last night by Leeds showed that McClennan had identified Pat's positioning as a week link and he was caught out on a few occasions. He is a winger filling in at fullback.
I agree. One of his main attricbutes on the wing was his height, he towers above most other wingers in the league and this gave you an obvious avenue for attack. Didn't seem to go link up with the halves last night which is something a good full back always does. Like you say though, I think this all comes form the fact he's filling in rather than a specialist full back.

Right I'll own up now.
That's what I was alluding to.
But there was some cr@p posted a while ago of how he was not good enough for Wigan.
McGoldrick is a very good player, and IS the kind of low cost player that would enhance our squad.

He should but has anyone ever thought a players weaknesses are what coaches are supposed to work on and iron out, particularly young players like him? We seem to expect young players to have an all round set of skills and be the complete player the day they take the pitch in a 1st team game.
Goulding seems to be suffering form this to a degree under Noble. Seems to me he is expected to be a top class centre with nothing to learn and gets dropped very quickly when in fact he needs a bit of coaching. Ashton was the same IMO.
Quote:Getting Ashton in for Mathers is no change at all. Richards should stay at Full Back. Hes better than both.
Ashton's support play is IMO better than either player and he is faster than both. Richards is easily the more complete player but IMO Ashton didn't know how to handle the fact he was a young player leaving Wigan yet expected to play first team footy. It all went wrong. I'd give him a one year deal with the option of another two based on performance despite my utter dislike of him appearing the in the RU shirt.

He is not low cost he is on a big deal. Once again i expect someone to slate me for having the opinion of rating him and thinking he would be a good signing as i said last year, imho one of the top players in the league but would be a knee jerk reaction signing now.

If Salfords ideal player is Harison Hansen, then your ambitions are pretty low.

McGoldrick wouldn't have made any difference on Friday or any other game we've played. Our next signing must be of a player who will make a difference. McGoldrick is a good player but is earning a large wedge, just signed a four year deal and is one of Cas's better players. It would cost a fortune in transfer fee and wages.
We need a leading figure who can do it as well as talk it.
At Leeds we're 6-0 down and hadn't touched the ball. We needed someone to calm things down, complete our sets to put them under pressure. Instead we tried to play catch up with only 5 mins gone, kept pushing the pass and losing the ball, the opposite of what we should have been doing. By doing that, after 30 mins it's 22-0 and the game's over.
We need a signing of a leader, a senior and experienced player who can bolster the pack too.
McGoldrick is good but not what we need.

Like Trent did last season? And some people think we aren't missing him at all
Seriously tho i hope if i keep mentioning him IL might get of his booty, dip into his pockets and get us Dobson. He'll do everything that you mentioned about controlling the game, getting the right people hitting the ball at the right time and he'll put them under pressure with and excellent kicking game.
We have to make sure that we don’t get anyone 2 old in the pack cause if they are signed on a two year deal we could potentially lose both Fielden, new signing and then Feka in the space of three seasons?
We need someone whose a talent but not that old say 26-27 ish so we can get some continuity going.
