You make a very valid point. Lee Crooks was a much bigger waste of money for Leeds. A much bigger flop (for Leeds) than gallagher.

Why doesn't Schoey stick the boot into his boozing buddy?

He's an embittered ex pro who thinks the game owes him a living. Gallagher might not have been the greatest RL player. What annoys me more is that Schofield could've been the best but he pissed it away as well as holding himself (and his team) back with his lousy attitude.

Then he should keep his mouth shut. He is his own worst enemy.

I think Gallagher is a teacher at a large public school in South Londong (Colfe's I think they call it). Not sure that he was Leeds' worst ever player but certainly in the running for the most dissappointing compared to expectations

I suspect that says more about expectations that it does about Gallagher.

Wasn't even Leeds least effective Union convert of that time, chuck that particular award at David Young IMO, irrespective of what he went on to do at Salford.

You wonder how much with Gallagher was about ability and how much was about character. He'd come from being part of a sporting team which was absolutely dominant on a global basis into a pretty ordinary Leeds team. Players with much less natural ability seemed to be able to cope better with the situation - Simon Irving being a prime example.

Andy, my edit might help understand why he wasn't a success and the mouthpiece slagging him off was a major instigator in that.

We should have signed Kirwin, not Gallagher. Now he would have been worth the money.

But as I stated G1, less talented players arguably managed to rise above that and contribute to a decent level - you wonder why that wasn't the case with Gallagher.

Good call.

I wonder if our current younger generation of fans realise just how good this current Leeds team and set up actually is. In addition I also wonder if they realise how unusual it is to have our consistently high expectations almost always being matched by performances on the field.

Heady days indeed!

Did they?

What did we do during Gallagher's tenure?

I don't think the word "team" can ever be used to adequately describe any of the Leeds outfits that contained Schofield and his clique.

I thought he was starting to move towards a decent standard until the spear tackle incident.
