This is where my view of it is different to yours I think. Although he meant to kick him (obvious he did), I have no doubt in my mind that he never intended to injure him, it was purely frustration.

I can understand that, however having played sport to a reasonable(ish) for most of my life and getting frustrated (not in a sexual way I might add!!) on numerous occasions I've NEVER taken that out on an opposing player. There's absolutely no excuse for it, hence the "dont try and defend the indefensible" comment I made earlier.

It's usually the ref that gets it (again not in a sexual way!!) and results in me getting a red card!!!

I think we'll have to agree to disagree. Guthrie was bang out of order and should have been banned for much longer IMO. You think the opposite. Fine by me.

The refs get it (sexual way (non) ) when we play 5-a-side on Thursday night. A few of our team seem to take their frustration out on opponents sometimes but they don't intend to injure anybody.
