Knowing Nobby, he'll probably start him at 6 on Friday.

I'm not Noble's biggest fan but I can see why some people get fed up with the sly digs others have at him.

He has done what everyone called for by giving Ainscough and Tomkins there chances, we play some bloody good rugby against a team always in the play offs, he at least deserves a bit of a break at the very least.

Why not go mental and get behind the coach and players eh?

Really? Must have been you who was posting all my stuff for the last couple of years then! I wondered who it was.

P.S not to mention certain other posters too....

An excellent point Rogues and one I was going to make myself. I thought better of it as I figured any comparisons to Rads would be met with a hail of protest and cloud the issue so I used Webb instead. Couldn't agree more though...

Any personnel in particular Jimmy?

Lets be honest, you can't seriously think that?

according to form he had quite a poor game from what i have been told.
nobby was at the game. with richards performing so well at fb and ainscough doing a great job on the wing. does this spell the end for mathrs ?
even if ainscough or roberts got injured, pryce (who did have a strong game in the reserves) could go on the wing .
mathers was even put in at 6 for a while and his distribution was shocking .

Mathers just does not have the qualities expected of a fullback. Certainly from what I have seen of him in Wigan colours.

Fullbacks have to be good ball catchers and more importantly clinical tacklers as they are the last line of defense. Mathers is neither. He looks nervous everytime a kick is put his way and he certainly is not a clinical tackler. Just look at Pat Richards compared to Mathers. I feel much more confident with Richards at fullback than Mathers.

Also in attack a fullback is supposed to make runs into the attack or support a runner in anticipation of a pass out of the tackle.(Hock and Feka) Mathers again doesn't do this either whereas Pat Richards does.

I don't know how he made his name in rugby league and to think he was snapped up by the Aussies just seems unreal. There is a good player in Richie Mathers somewhere but I just wonder if he will ever fully recover from the knee injuries he has had.

He's never been tested before that's why.

When Mathers was at Leeds, they had a solid line. One of the strongest ever IMO, yes if you broke the line the odds were you'd score unless the speed of Leeds' back got you.

Braking the line was the difficulty, NOT getting past Mathers.

in addition to this, Mathers' mistakes would more or less go un-noticed since Leeds would score 2 tries for every one let in.
