They should also take a leaf out of progressive local amateur side 'Wigan Riversiders' book and drop the 'Football' from the name. Wigan RLC is the way forward.

We simply do not relate to WARRIORS at all. People generally don't say to their mates they're ''going watching the Warriors'', they say ''I'm going watching the Rugby''.

It's about time it went. In fact, I'm going to take this further! Who'll join me? :)

Yes, I will support anything you do to junk that awful name.

It's just WIGAN, nothing else. Get rid of that stupid nickname.

Going off this thread so far, apart from one post everybody would like to see us drop the tag.

I remember at the first fans forum that this question was raised on the spot without much time to weigh up an answer and a decision was made by show of hands. It was about 50/50 and the name was kept...But I think IL and JL should have looked into this further and asked people why should they keep it and do we really benefit from having the 'tag'?

If people read this and are able to post, please do so. It would be interesting to know peoples opinions. After all, it is our identity.

Lenagan has not stated that he likes it.

At the first fans forum he asked the question that is being posted on here.

The show of hands vote at that forum was about 50:50.

Lenagan said that he was surprised how close the vote was.

It looks as though it's just as close according to this poll.

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row

This subject has been brought up many times on here and I always have the same opinion.

For me, Wigan RL is associated with success and trophies. Wigan Warriors is associated with failure and underachievement.

I would love us to drop the Warriors tag.

Fair enough if some/majority of people want to keep it. But I'd like to know their reasons for doing so like Phuzzy has done.

We should drop Warriors straight away. For decades 'WIGAN' in sport meant rugby league, and I hate it when Latics are referred to as simply 'Wigan'. They are 'Wigan Athletic', just as we should be 'Wigan RL'.

I'd hate it even more, if latics became 'Wigan' and we became 'The Warriors' in popular culture.

Correct. Anyone voting not to remove the Warriors tag is confirming themselves as a Latics fan, in my opinion.
