The answer is what all others fans have been stating categorically for years: Wire are the great underachievers with a business set-up, fan base, stadium and playing squad as good as anything in SL BUT lacking a top-class coach. After such a long wait not many Wire fans will expect overnight miracles, but then, such are not really needed: this squad was good enough to beat Leeds once last season even under Lowes.

Warringtons problems would seem to come from overall football management rather than just a poor coach. For Leeds it's GH that made the difference. We were there or there abouts with Powell as head coach, Tony Smith just finished the job as coach. It's the same with Stains, the head coach is a small part of the puzzle. When Wigan ruled they could have had Tinkywinky as head coach and won everything (I think they did have one of the teletubbies with John Dorahy one year). Darth Millward and Nobby Noble prove that the coach has limited influence when the club in general is in bad shape recruitment and youth development wise with their efforts at Wigan.
Most clubs just don't have the right management but when they fail they sack the coach rather than themselves.

Look at Leeds in the early 90s. They had a cracking playing squad but it only takes a couple with a poor attitude to upset things.
Thats the one thing that those who will draw up their lists of desireable players and/or prepare their own ratings of new signings completely fail to take account of time and again.
The reverse of your statement is also true - a player who is rated as poor by the amateur pundits (and all pundits are amatuer, even the ex-players who prostitute themselves in the media as "experts") can be an outstanding team member, even in a team that is rated as "poor", in a way that no-one outside of the team will ever understand.
Opinions are like assholes - everyone has one - you just wouldn't want to spent your whole life listening to them.
