As I remember it all of the clubs in SL were forced to get an American nickname for marketing purposes, but we got away with it because we were already using the 'Saints' logo as a brand.
i believe that before halifax took the ridiculous blue sox name,they considered calling themselves the halifax bombers.allthough this was a marvellous plane and played a huge part in ww2,it was deemed not particularly pc in a european super league

I think they actually were called the Bombers for a season or two. IIRC the fans revolted against it and they got rid of the name. Then called themselves the bluesox. I bet a few people wished they'd kept shtum.
