SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

Yes for a rock concert

Bit difficult to play RL with fans on the pitch though

I've heard from a reputable source that 2020 is their target for SL.

There is a pretty big RU stadium in Limerick that could be used in the future for Super League

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomond_Park

I have a work colleague who is a big Munster RU supporter, originally from Limerick. who has said he would watch this team a couple of times over here and would buy a replica shirt.

As I said, without all the politics that mar the game in France and England, RL would do well in Ireland...look at Australia. It is seen as a working class game that is open to all, unlike Union that is seen in Ireland as elitist. The GAA was formed with one of its main aims to exile the traditional English games of cricket, soccer and rugby. It called these "foreign games" and it forbade its members to play or attend them - a ban that lasted up to the 1960s
I believe if marketed well and given the right level of support, RL will take off quicker than in Scotland (or London for that matter  )

Wellsy13 wrote:Basically you've said that it doesn't sound ambitious without having an inckling of a clue what their plan is it seems. They could, as you have later suggested, have a plan to relocate should they get in the league. They may do a Catalans and relocate for a year whilst they expand the ground.

What I'm getting at is the size of the ground whilst they are playing in the Championships is no bearing on a club's future ambition.

well, yes, because thats the only information available.

and again, how many stadiums are built then expanded within 5-10 years? how many are built then another slightly bigger stadium is built near it within 5-10 years

Quote:A SL club in Ireland has to come from the Championship (or similar competition), as it is in the RFL's licensing criteria. It makes sense for a club in the Championship to play in a stadium within their means and expand when necessary rather than be in a ground that will not be used and cost too much.

it would, but it would make more sense for a club going into the championship to know what it is going to do when it gets there

Quote:Also, it is better to have a Championship club than no professional club at all. A Championship club still offers players a pathway to the elite. They can come through an academy system at this club and either play semi-pro rugby or be signed to a SL club as a trained player. It's better than no system at all.

it is, and as i have said, not having the ambition or plans to make the jump to SL now is fine, they can go be a good championship club,

but we are going to be missing a massive trick by getting ireland to produce a few stars and then only bringing them to england,

how can it move anywhere, it is rudderless and has no plan other than a vague aim

Where is this magical club, who are its backers?

Celtic have been built on the top of Bridgend RU club and Celtic Warriors. Catalan is pretty much UTC, a club founded by St. Esteve and Catalan XIII. From what I have seen there is no existing club or organisation that actually wants this club to exist. Surely until we actually find out if there is a backer to this new club it is surely all pie in the sky.

Don't get me wrong i am for a team in Ireland but this all sounds like fiction to me.
