Would this imply that there has been a relaxation of the entry rules, see the bbc link for full article

However, he could still have difficulties gaining permission to play away matches in England.

The UK Borders Agency has no objection to him playing in France but says it will be up individual immigration officers at UK airports to decide whether he be allowed access into the UK.

Not worth the risk of including him in the squad then, being turned away on entry and having to revert to a different game plan.

Think Catalan have messed up with this one.

No relaxation, they're just stating the bare facts. Anyone who turns up at the UK border without prior permission to enter is assessed and dealt with by individual immigration officers.

They all work to the same guidelines, however...

Exactly.

The UKBA have just publicly confirmed that as far as they're concerned Bird's situation has not changed just because he now has a job in France.

So that sounds like how that particular officer interprets the rules, rather than applying them to the letter as has been the case of late in Canberra.

found this in League Express

"The RFL said that this kind of problem had not arisen before, seeing that this player had been refused a visa to play in England. But he can play in france, and I think that, considering he is part of a French organisation, he could spend 48 hours in England [to play matches] and then return to France." - Bernard Guasch (Catalan Chairman)

but that doesnt really address being allowed in the country as far as I can see, Chris28 where are you?

It sounds like the UKBA firing a warning shot while being very careful to not appear to be pre-judging an individual case.

The two situations are identical. In both cases you have an individual interpreting the rules according to current guidelines.
