He's always been good at big games and knockout situations, not only did he do the two great cup runs to win Sheffield and Hull Challenge Cups against the odds, he took over Wakefield in situation impossible in 2006 where they had to win 4 from their last 6 or something to stay up, and he did it.

He doesn't seem to work as well with high profile overseas players as he does young British lads though, this happened at Hull with Stephen Kearney and Richard Swain, Hull wanted to give Kearney a coaching job when he retired as a player but he wouldn't work under Kear. Some of these guys seemed to think Kear is more of a media personality than a good coach.

Would you have him over Smith or Hanley?

Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

Agree with Sally regarding working with 'star' players, or those who think of themselves as 'stars'.

That's why I don't think he'd work well for us.

How many 'stars' have we?
How many players think of themselves as 'stars' but aren't?

Not many of the former. A lot of the latter.

He'd therefore be perfect for us. As we haven't won anything for 18 years, we are surely a lesser team.

I like Kear, he comes across as a good bloke whenever he is on TV, and he has had some great success with his teams.

I always think it is difficult to measure how good a coach really is though, as they don't all work under the same conditions.

Noble did a great job at Bradford, however not so good after the first year as GB boss, and many want him out at Wigan now.

Millward was seen by many (Saints fans) as the best coach around, yet he was shown up at Wigan.

McRae hasn't exactly shown himself to be a genius away from Saints.

Monie hasn't done much at his last few clubs.

Smith is now getting stick after the World Cup.

It is also worth remembering that after their awful run last year, many wanted Kear out at Wakefield.

Sometimes, at certain clubs, things just click, but that doesn't mean that if Wire had got Daniel Anderson for example that we could have gone on and lost in two consecutive Grand Finals.

Sound, we don't want him thanks. While I accept he'd be an improvement on Lowes, we need a top class coach, preferably Australian.

At one point, wasn't it reported on Sky Sports News that he'd left the club, and within hours was hastily denied.

My choice?

I'd move heaven and earth to get Justin Morgan - and I thought that from the day they put us out of the CC a few years ago, but be honest, who would leave any club at the moment to get involved with us?
