IMO it was a combination of Smiths poor tackling and Goulding poor positioning/ decision making/ reading of the game.
Which coach was it that said tackling is a personal thing but defence is a team thing?
Either way Goulding had an unfit Pryce next to him and Smith on the other side. He did not stand much chance did he.... Smith missed 4 tackles which led to 4 Castleford tries.
It is a team thing. Noble has to switch it round this week and make sure Smiths weak defence gets hidden as much as possible. He has to defend on the wing IMO.

I also hope that the reason Goulding is not in there is because he is hurt, granted his defensive positioning was poor at times against Cas however I see no justification for him to be dropped and for Smith who missed tackles that led to every try conceded to remain in the squad.
Goudling has been dropped cause he hasnt performing in any of the 3 games, Smith is in there as he has shown he can lead the side around the park, i make reference to the Hull game. He was our best player by a distance.
Both Ainscough and Tomkins will make the 17.
1. Roberts
2. Ainscough
3. Carmont
4. Pryce
5. Pat
6. Smith
7. Tommy
8. Fielden
9. Piggy
10. Feka
11. Bailey
12. Hansen
13. Locky
Bench: Tomkins, Tomkins, Hock, O Carroll

Goulding got taken apart by Shenton last week. Time after time he went through the left channel in the first half, Wigan's right. Not saying the defeat was all down to him by any means, but he deserves to be dropped along with a few others.

Smith got dragged over by Ferres for the try, awful defence.
If you watch it again, Shenton coming off Sherwin cut through several times in the Wigan right centre channel. Smith isn't innocent, but we have less choice of stand-offs vs centres.

The fact is regardless of where Goulding was or was not stood in the defensive line that Smith missed at least 4 one on one tackles that led directly to tries.
Goulding has been no better or worse than any of the side in the first 3 games however from the outside it appears that in the "team" ethic that some are more equal than others.

1 - Richards
2 - Ainscough
3 - Carmont
4 - Bailey - (Main reason in centre to have Bailey outside Tim Smith and Tomkins / Hansen inside teams are pointing out Tims awful defence)
5 - Roberts
6 - Smith
7 - Tomkins
8 - Fielden
9 - Leuleui
10 - O'Carroll
11 - Hock
12 - Tomkins
13 - Lockers
14 - Riddell
15 - Feka
16 - Hansen
17 - Coley
Mathers n Pryce to miss out - Idea being that if Sam Tomkins as a nightmare or freezes Noble can still save his job by moving the three round with Riddell on

Goulding offers nothing in attack, look at the two tries he should have scored against Hull, the second one was unforgivable at this level.
To add, the main player missing in the right defensive channel last week was Bailey.
