Whats going on ??

You have to keep the attendance figures in context IE Saturday night, 7.30pm kick off, St Valentines Day and finally switched to TV.

If you compare the attendance with the two matches at the Willows versus Celtic Crusaders last season,Saturdays crowd stands up well in that -

15/05/2008 Attendance 3438 14/02/2009 Attendance 4026 +17%

11/09/2008 Attendance 2607 14/02/2009 Attendance 4026 + 54%

Yes the crowds need to improve and against the majority of Superleague teams they will.

What is going on? The club are very active in promoting itself in a variety of ways and have appointed Adam Jude specifically to improve attendances, the community side is doing excellent work which eventually will pay dividends.

The press media coverage that we get is improving all the time and we receive as much publicity if not more than most clubs and again in the medium to long term the crowds should increase.

It's fact we have the biggest shirt sponsorship in Super League by a distance, thing is we are not sad enough to post on other clubs forums about how embarrassing it is that other clubs only get £xxx per season from their shirt sponsorship deal!

Get a life!

FWIW, I thought there were more than 4026 there on Saturday. I thought it was nearer the 5000 mark as The Shed was reasonably full and there was a decent sprinkling in the North Stand and in front of the VC. However, we're going to struggle to pull in decent crowds for the likes of Quins, Celtic & Les Cats and as long as we can build our fanbase over the next 3 years that'll do for me.

Before moving from Wilderspool Warrington struggled to maintain 4,000 average so we have lots of hope for the future.

To be fair, they averaged more than that in the last couple of years. But they were getting around 4,100/4,200 against teams such as London Broncos.

Yes, we were on TV, Yes we were playing arguably the worst supported team in SL, Yes it is Valentines day. But still, we will seriously have to look into our marketing and how to attract more fans. We have been to primary schools and we have had the 'bring a date' campaign, but I don't think the club quite thought that through because to qualify for a ticket you have to have known someone who already has a ST. Hopefully we can start getting more fans and we can prove everyone wrong!

A wise head on young shoulders, Danny boy.

4026 simply wasn't good enough, hopefully the club realise this and will market these sort of games properly in the future. On a positive note this could very well be our lowest crowd of the season.

it doesn't help when the club gives out incentives, such as golden angel tickets and the perfect match offer, then renege on them by not giving the correct e mail or no e mail at all, then promising to get someone to ring you back and no one does.

Has anyone thought about the implications the credit crunch could have on Premier League Football in the area? OK people have already paid for their season tickets for this season but what will happen when they have to renew in this economic climate at extortionate prices of £500-£600 in the summer?

I wonder if there could be a possibilty of attracting some new supporters/families who enjoy live sport but may simply not be able to afford the cost of watching United/City/Bolton? Lets be honest if SL is say 20-25% of the cost of watching football it's surely a very attractive alternative isn't it? Even Sale Sharks is twice what Salford Charge!

It makes you think, how many people actually know how much cheaper it is to watch Super League? Should the club do some aggressive advertising in the Manchester Evening News and show some examples of how much cheaper it is?

Its a thought TRS, but I watch United with a large group of lads from Salford and they are just not into Rugby, no matter, some are not going to renew their STs next season either but join the membership scheme and pick and choose matches.
At OT my ticket works out at £25.45 a game
kids are a tenner
think at City its about £25 a game as well with kids a Fiver

the big saving comes with fewer matches, so its the one off games that prove dear.

Maybe offer a free ticket to all season ticket holders of united and city with manchester postcodes to come along and sample Rugby league at the willows.
