Useless, sorry the buck has to stop with the coach, get rid once and for all. Didn't help ourselves with the sendin off, and some of our defence was comical to say the least. Whats the point in having the HB of their quality if we aren't getting ball to them? On the positive, I like the look of Flynn.
poop crowd too, and as for the lad who said there was a good atmosphere, you have to be joking?
an atmosphere that isn't created by people in matching shirts clapping along to a drum or novelty PA music might be nice!

Loz sent off??? For punching????
Surely not!!
Loz Won just about every player of the year award at Rovers last year and tows his rop out every game. How he kept going, week in week out at full tilt when some high profile big earning players quite clearly didn't is testimony to the lad. A really good player and on the pitch has just one flaw!!!!
Can you guess what that is...............
She carries on through it all......
She's a Waterfall

Regards the ref, he won't care if he's had a shocker, he'll still be picked to ruin a game next week
Thanks Blueboy - the first post to give Oldham any credit. Yes we are a decent team and are really an NL1 team operating in NL2 (or whatever they are calling the leagues this year). As someone else has said we beat a full strength Salford team in this comp last year together with Whitehaven and smashed Dewsbury by 50 points in the Challenge Cup - but this year we are even stronger having recruited players like Highton and Reilly who have extensive SL experience, Thomas Coyle who played a couple of games for Wigan in SL last year, together with Greenwood, L'Anson, Ballard, who played at NL1 last year. Ex Widnes man Dave Allen still to come into the team who has looked good in pre-season and would have played had he not picked an injury. Add to that a number of players on last year's squad who have played at a higher level. Oldham are nobodies mugs.
Even with 13 men in the first half an hour Widnes really struggled to break Oldhams defensive line.
Yes ref had a shocker, was bad for both sides but we probably got a couple of the key decisions (1) sending off - which I thought was harsh (2) late penalties in front of sticks - but Widnes really didn't help themselves with very poor discipline.
As for the post about atmosphere - I witnessed a lot of Widnes fans barracking the ref and then the fans didn't really come alive until the ten minute spell in the second half when Widnes got on top and fought back.
Very happy with the Roughyeds performance, think Widnes have significantly more problems than we do on that display.

Agreed. Oldham did not look out of place last night by any means. (Although I might suggest conceding three tries in ten minutes to a side playing with one man less would be a bit of a concern!)
They played well in establishing their lead, took full advantage of the opportunities that came their way and did enough to see the game out.
The difference between NL1 AND NL2 (or whatever they're called these days) is not as wide as that between NL1 and Superleague. We'd already seeen Keighley comfortably beating Gateshead before last night and it won't surprise many people to see some other "shock" results during this NRC campaign.
We will improve as the season progresses, and we have more game time obviously, it did show though that with a few older heads Oldham knew the little tricks, how to work the ref, wind up players, put the pressure on, this only comes with game time and experience, and I am confident our youngsters (which I am very proud of) will learn in time, just a shame we haven't got Barry and Tez to teach them a thing or two.
I worry, as much as I like Lee Doran, and as much as he gives, he is a little hot headed, and some times tries to off load/spills the ball a bit too much, or just has to have that extra dig and will cost us quite a few penalties.
I think we are still too light, and in bad weather when its heavy going, against quite a few teams, the fact that we have dont have enough really experienced out and out props will let us down.

Wildbore though, idiot. Deserved the sending off, and Doran cost us the match too although that last penalty was a shocker.
Richard Lewis sent that referee. He must have.
Only one good point in the match. Our youngsters were our best players on the pitch. The rest werent up for it.
Disgrace.
