A debate has been raging for more than a year now, as to who is Cheshire's most valuable rugby league Penny.

The debate has centred around Kevin Penny, the once celebrated current wizard winger for Warrington, and Lee Penny, the former star full back for Warrington, who also valiantly represented Scotland in the notoriously unsuccessful 2000 World Cup.

What a pity that nobody has tried to rank either of these with the famous and dazzling former Widnes scrum half, Sydney born Joel Penny.

Cheshire has attracted an unusual number of distinguished Celts named Penny, perhaps because of the role of the Mersey on the inland trade routes from Liverpool, and perhaps because of the land immigration from Wales, not to mention the southward drift of so many impoverished Scottish families. .

Warrington Wolves Penny supporters and Penny comparers were justifiably angry.

I must say that I found Lowes' peevish Penny-pinching penchant positively preposterous.

If Warrington's poor performances under Lowes continues, I will be leading a campaign to have Lowes replaced. One very good prospect for the next coach of Warrington would be none other than the estimable Lee Penny.
