I'm not defending Bird or the Bulls but you can see why they and the RFL had reason to assume he would be treated differently having no actual convictions.

Mr bird refused visa until after trial not suprising really I would have been suprised if they had allowed him in before his court appearance

It would seem that UK Border Control may have decided he made a false declaration or omission on the visa application.

It seems perfectly reasonable to refuse it at this stage whilst criminal charges are pending.

If the charges are dropped or he is acquitted he's perfectly free to re-apply.

Seems like a common sense decision to me.
