Pride
The Pride I have to support the greatest team in the world, the best supporters in the world & everything that goes with it. The History, the legends even the stories about old players, and games.
The fact that no matter where you go people associate Wigan with Rugby League, not football, not Glass, not Fish, not Cables just rugby (oh yeah and maybe pies )
Basically everything from the Cherry & White jersey's to Central Park.
Ignore the name Warriors and substitute Wigan RLFC.
What do I love.
The people I have met over the last 60 years from "all clubs"
The rugby friends I have made.
The laughs and the tears.
The joy and the despair.
The eight in a row.
Billy Boston
Wading across a river in1965 to get into the Workington ground.
Breaking the gates down at Leeds in 1957 to get into a cup game (we lost 13 -11)
Running from Wallgate Station to see the last 15 minutes of a cup replay in 1961 (John Rigby grammar wouldn't let us have the afternoon off)
The smell, of wintergreen when I was sat on the ringside at Central Park.
I could go on for hours
But most of all, the feeling, it's MY team.
SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS
For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.
For 27 - 0 you get a trophy For 75 - 0 you get sod all.
Wigan had eight in a row Saints have five in a row
The fantastic memories from growing up watching the team of the 60's. The feeling of belonging to something special. The fact that even though I have lived in London for 26 years everyone who knows me knows I am a pie eater through and through. A list of players a mile long but particularly Boston, Ashurst, and McTigue. The continuing success of Shaun Edwards: he may coach Wales RU but he takes evry opportunity to show he is pure Wigan. Bloody hell, I could go on for hours but I've got to get up in the morning.
The Town
The club
The legends
The History
The roll of honour
The cup final emotions
The fantastic people Ive met
The feeling of pulling on the cherry and white hoops
The badge on my chest
Local derby wins
The history of central park
The fantastic coaches
The loyal supporters
The feeling I get leading up to a match
The unbelieve feeling of a last minute win
I love my town so much and Im unbelievably proud to be a wiganer. I wouldnt want to be anything else and I never want to leave. Wigan Rugby League is and always will be a masive part of my life.
Often when I have rant, its about the team. That takes nothing away from me supporting my town
