He's got in early with his 2 match ban, doing someone in the first game of the season. He was also red-carded a couple of times last season.
I never remeber Mathers to be that thuggish or that 'bad / desperate' at Full Back. After all, he was part of the 2003 Challenge Cup Final team and 2004 League Championship side (for some of it), so can't be that bad a player.
Has he been turned by Nobby or his stint down under ?

It was for a trip wasn't it?
He also got banned for same offence last year.
Mathers was always doing things close/over borderline at Leeds. He was always a clumsy tackler and was lucky on a few occassions.

When?

Could be some correlation with his lack of pace - caused by his two knee reconstructions - and his disciplinary record?
He was never the quickest - carrying a head that size round can't be easy - but he now makes Wellens look like Usane Bolt
Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.

Of course their moanings went overboard sometimes. But sometimes deserved.
Sorry I thought you had some specific incidents in mind.
I can't recall anything from his time here.

I don't recall that one. He got a warning letter for recklessly lashing out with his feet around Rob Burrow's upper body but I'd hardly call that a trip.

Its a strange one is this one. I was talking to a mate of mine doing his dream team asking if he should put mathers in and I said to stay clear cos ever since his return from auz he's been sent to the sidelines more than jim gannon.. can't remember him being so dirty at leeds..???
