Michael Phelps admits 'regrettable behaviour' OLYMPIC swimmer Michael Phelps admitted that he had engaged in "regrettable" behaviour and "demonstrated bad judgment" after a photo was published that appeared to show him smoking cannabis.
A British newspaper, the News of the World, published the photo allegedly showing the multiple Olympic gold medal-winner inhaling from a glass pipe which is generally used to smoke the drug.
"I engaged in behaviour which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment," Phelps said in a statement.

winning like never before. decoys. mouse traps. chicken wings. lollie pops. shepperds. the crusher. grapples. big league. In 1935 The Dragon Slayers as they were known defeated Canterbury bulldogs 91-6, which is still the biggest win in the Club's History. In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911. References were found at the time to district teams being called 'The Saints'.the perfect 11

It would appear that he's aware that what he did was a bit naughty. Let's also factor in that what he has been pictured doing appears to be completely unconnected to his Olympic achievements and I think a call to strip him of his medals is a tad OTT.

If it didn't influence his performance at the games I don't see how taking his medals would achieve anything. I don't like drugs though, its a shame an athlete like Phelps turns to them.

Damned straight, homeboy - and what about the glass weapon of mass destruction he had in his hands? The bong has come a long way from an Orchy bottle and a piece of dad's garden hose. This was the Speedo LZR Racer suit of drug paraphernalia. NASA would have been envious.
While the swimming world is aghast at the sight of Phelps bonging on, it could do well to kick back and chill out. Yes, it sends a bad message to the kiddies. Of course, marijuana is illegal. And it's a well-established fact that long-term marijuana use can enhance bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia and an overwhelming desire to eat a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts. http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/s ... 23,00.html

"It's more of a moral issue than anything else. But I think people are entitled to a mistake."
While it was initially reported the photographic evidence could threaten Phelps's career as an athlete, the case is unlikely to fall under doping rules.
Phelps has never tested positive for banned substances and marijuana is viewed differently from performance-enhancing drugs.

So, that's arrested on suspicion of DUI and now being photographed seemingly using illegal drugs. Hardly the greatest judgement when you're trying to use your "role model" status to win advertising dollars
