I`m not saying we shouldn`t invest in young british talent as i think we should do without any shadow of a doubt, its just i wouldn`t want us to go down the route you seem to want us to go down and that is to sign a rookie kid that hasn`t played a single game of SL yet with all his form is in a lower league that made Mick Nanyn look like Mal Menninga and start him as a first choice half back.
All Richie Myler is so far is a bit of potential and nothing more, Tompkins is twice the player he is anyway if your talking about talented british half backs.
Lets have an update on this a third of the way through the season, and obviously we've seen a bit more of Myler & Tomkins now. We've also got a new man at the helm, different thought process, recruitment policies etc.
All the media talk, SKY etc, seems to be that Tomkins is the better player, but I'm still in the Myler camp. I thought he was easily the best halfback on the field yesterday. Pages, I think 5-7, see me & Rob_Wire disagreeing on the way forward for 2010, and I totally see both sides, I just thought it was worth a bit more debate now, and obviously pertinant given yesterday and we are still dogged by halfback problems.
Rob, I'm not trying to be smart here chief, I know it was one performance yesterday, one swallow and all that, but since this thread, it's popped into my head a few times, and I thought it'd be good to look at the youngsters, and their progression, as it was clear you deemed Tomkins a player of huge potential, and I've been interested how Eddie & Stevo seem intent on talking him up to all that'll listen.
On one of your posts, you sort of indicate that Myler may or not be SL class, has he done enough yet to convince that he is ? Would you be happier now if we chased him than say, January, when we discussed this ace ? Would folk in general feel the same way, is he now, a bit more 'proven' so to speak.
I thought there was a bit of debate to be had here.
