Would Adams, or for that matter anyone else, have to average over 100 in every round to win the PDC World Championships? Surely all you have to do is average and/or finish better than the other guy, and in some of the early rounds of the PDC averages in the high 80s/low 90s were good enough to win matches comfortably.
You might need to turn it on earlier than the semis/final depending on where you fit in the draw, but it's not inconceivable you could average mid 90s, finish around 30-40% and make the final.

as much as i prefer the PDC...this statement is true. Shepard averaged high 80's on his way to the final!

I'd venture there's very, very few players who can. Taylor, obviously; probably Barney, but after that I don't see any of them doing it over the course of a long tournament.

Erm, no. There was no mention of whether it meant tournament play or just one game. I just blew Maca's "myth" out of the window.
As Lord Percy said anyway, there are not a lot of people who can regularly sustain 100+ average over the course of a tournament; Taylor definately, Barney possibly. However, there are a few that could do it over the course of a match.
