If we have a game scheduled for a Friday night with all corporate seating and boxes sold and then Latics get an FA cup draw for the Saturday, we will have to move our game. He was quite matter of fact about this and up front.

Yeah basically Whelan dictates when and where we play if there is a fixture clash regardless of the circumstances. However we do have a very good lease apparently

I thought chairs were going to be thrown at this point, it did get very heated.

And yet presumably you approve of him significantly upping the pay of our best youngsters in order to keep them at Wigan?

It's a balancing act and it's about priorities. He also mentioned that he envisaged 'in the medium term' that we are seeking to provide the bulk of our players from out own Academy, with about three world-class players from elsewhere.

He also mentioned that the current situation would change radically in 2010, when five of our current big earners come off contract.

In regards to paying 75k for this un named player, why wont he pay it?

Im glad I didnt go, sounds rather naff.

Can anyone tell us the sponsor yet?

Deano G wrote:You're 100% correct. Given our fanbase unless the stadium company is taking a massive chunk of ticket revenue ( :?: ) this should not be an issue. Let's hope IL was saying this as part of a clever ploy to keep attendances high... otherwise it could be read as an admission that a large percentage of ticket revenue is being taken by the stadium company (since they aren't, according to IL, charging a high rent).

Merchandise - IL & MH stated their intent to grow merchandise sale triple fold, from £500K per annum to £1.5M, to 'get up there' with the likes of Leeds, Saints & Wire.
