first for his role in Super LEague in australia. then in his attitude which seemed arrogant.
first time i tried to read Dont Die with the music in you, i thought he was a pompous, arrogant twit.
after reading it again i changed my mind.
am currently reading his book "the man in the mirror". have changed my views 100%.
that such a loyal aussie, whose uncle also played for the kangaroos, wanted to help NZ in the world cup says it all.
when people were saying international RL was dead a few years ago, he was the person that came up with the idea of the Tri Nations as a new start forward.
that got the international game back up there and then hes helped out NZ in the world cup.
and next year he takes on the challenge of getting a famous club like saints to relive their past glories.

For all his faults Bennett clearly loves the game, wants to see it flourish at International level and commands great respect from the players he coaches.
WEST COAST PIRATES NRL expansion? Sometime soon, maybe......

fire up dragons ohh when the saints. go marching home
winning like never before. decoys. mouse traps. chicken wings. lollie pops. shepperds. the crusher. grapples. big league. In 1935 The Dragon Slayers as they were known defeated Canterbury bulldogs 91-6, which is still the biggest win in the Club's History. In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911. References were found at the time to district teams being called 'The Saints'.the perfect 11

The Rugby Football League are in the process of reviewing the video that you are referring to. We do not condone behaviour of this nature and have contacted the player’s employer, Hull F.C., who have confirmed that they are dealing with the incident under their club rules.
1. he was with an ARL team (saints). when he was talking to sign a contract with the ARL, their people (gus gould) said he wasnt much more than a bench player and didnt offer him a contract in accordance with being an origin player. Super Leauge did so he signed with them
that was in 1995 and the SL was supposed to start in 1996. the ARL took it to court and got an injunction so all the players that changed clubs were supposed to go back to their original clubs. tallis reckons the saints people promised him a release and when they didnt give it to him later he sat out the season in protest.
2. on bennett. another book ive read gives him more of a role in SL. remember he is bitter with news ltd now and is going to try to distance himself from what went on but at the time he was up to his neck in it.
his book makes it sound like the broncos werent always going to Super League. thats BS. it was their idea

i dont mean to sound stupid but i really dont know know what happened with sl at all.
i cant even tell when it started, when they played in different leagues(if they did) when and why they got back together.
with tallis what i meant is in bennets book it would seem they fell out but it doesnt say why.

they brought in the broncos in 1988. the broncos were never happy with a number of decisions the ARL was making, saying it was limiting their business.
after many arguments they approached news ltd to set up their own competition. news ltd wanted the Pay TV rights for RL which were with someone else.
1994 - rumours of a SL start
1995 - April 1st - SL erupts out, news ltd organizes raids on players and clubs signing many. ARL fights back signing clubs and players.
1996 - SL loses court case from starting their own competition
1997 - SL wins court case on appeal - 2 rival competitions
1998 - 2 competitions merged to form the nrl 1/2 owned by arl and 1/2 by news ltd
tallis vs bennett - its more bennett vs news ltd. tallis is an employee of news ltd so is doing what they want. bennett used to be one of their guys too, but when he was going to coach an ARL team in the roosters they turned on him. its all SL politics.
