St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911. Todd Carney is a young representative quality halfback - 5/8 with a drinking problem.
The Raiders are loathe to sack him, for fear he would simply be picked up by another NRL club or alternatively he would just follow Tim Smith and be lost to the game in Australia.
He has all the skills of Tim Smith, a longer kicking game and more creativity. He kicks goals also.
Could potentially be Australian halfback in 4 or 5 years time if he gets his act together.

I think it was Ricky Stuart that floated the solution that the player should be de-registered to avoid other clubs benefiting from Canberra's strong stance.
