My last visit to the Kashmir some 8 years ago was enough to ensure I never went again.

Nothing. As I said, what's weird is, you claiming that the curry house which is the spiritual home of this dish isn't worth going to.

If you had been there and tried the dish, and said they make it rubbish, then it might be less weird but of course you feel able to tell people the place is not worth going to even though you (plainly) are in no position to judge.

Or if you think you are, then I'll take Rick Stein's opinion as a better independent assessment than yours.

HTH

PS You still haven't commented on how you managed to do your curry marathon, or indeed why, if 99% of the curry houses were not worth going to. Are you a masochist?

I had the Rick Stein special about a year ago - it was excellent. I really like the style of curries in Bradford generally as round here they all seem to taste the same - spicy meaty soup.

If I'm allowed as a 'Fax fan to comment I'd like to relate my recent (tea-time today0 experience of The Karachi.
The place was my introduction to the "authentic Bradford curry experience" more years ago than i care to remember, but i hadn't been for at least 4-5 years, going by tonight's experience it will be a lot longer until my next visit.
The starters should have served as a warning. Ordered the "mixed starter" and yes it was. The Pakora/onion bargee (can never really tell the difference) was passable but much more garram to onion than i recall. the (shami?) kebab however was scorched to within an inch of it's life.
However the "quality" of the starters palled into insignificence when compared with the mains. We had a Meat bhuna plus a Meat/Channa something or other. Absolute garbage, we both agreed that the meat had a burnt taste to it and had clearly been introduced to the sauce a the last possible moment. And yes I do know that this common practice but it's usually done with a lot more skill. All in all a very poor offering, not improved by the sight of a kitchen assistant appearing to be engaged deep frying the chicken tikka between wiping his nose on his sleeve.
Just goes to prove that you can't live on your memories, or your previous reputation.
See you SL XVI

I went on Monday after the City match and had Sheesh kebabs and a Keema Karahi. It was most excellent.

I usually go to the Karachi twice a week nowadays, can't remember the last time I felt underwhelmed by anything I've ordered, although I don't think their sheekh and shami kebabs are the best.

Went a month or so back to the Karachi and had the chicken bhuna, it was really good. Think any news of it's demise was totally wrong.

I agree on this. I went to Kashmir probably around the same time (2000), and the food wasnt great. Even worse was the trip back to uni on the coach the next day - It was HELL, running in and out of the coach toilet. I feel sorry for all the other travellers on that journey!! I will never go back to the Kashmir after that.

Zouk on Leeds road is clean and has nice deserts. Anams is also clean but the food isnt the greatest tasting.

Come on you BULLS!!
