1. Whose boots was Jamie Lyon "fit to lace" before he came over here ??? He was a pig-shooting EX-NRL player before he came to Saints. Admittedly, he went on to star in the team, but what had he done up to that point in the NRL - he was never a "star-player", and come to think of it, what has he done since going back ???? (The word Over-rated seems to get thrown at him quite a bit recently)
2. If George can tackle, run and give more than 1 pass per game (successfully) to his winger, then he is already BETTER than DV, who he has replaced, and for less (much less) money.
I bagged him at first, on the basis of the "mixed" reports from Knights fans, but as has been pointed out, Trent Barrett was "well shut of", "crocked", "past it", "mercenary", "ready for retirement" and "shïte" when he came over.
For that reason, I will reserve any judgement until he has played several matches for us.
However, thinking about it, I can't see how I can come to a negative conclusion.
As I stated above, if he can make 1 of each (tackle, pass, run) in a match where his contract is NOT on the line, then he is giving us MORE than DV, for a fraction of the salary.
Any judgements on this lad's ability/effort HAVE to be viewed in the light of "What would DV have done ???"
(we all know the answer to that - Dropped it, knocked on, held on too long or just not been there in the first place)
Let's just wait and see, shall we ????
If nothing else, the good thing about Carmont is that he's joining us a lot more cheaply than DV did.
Contrary to mischievous but frankly idiotic comments from trouble-making trolls, he is not a straight replacement for Danny Hill. He is, as Dave O has said, essential cover for a first team shirt that would otherwise be vacant (Hill is no centre, and nor, if we're honest, is Phil Bailey).
He is also, I'm led to believe, part of a much larger scheme. If the rumours are true, his capture will only really be appreciated in a couple of weeks' time, when (or if) IL finds that he has successfully freed enough cap space to make a third signing.
