What you going on about ?? it was nothing to do with contacts he made over there it was the general public who he was talking to when he was in pubs and stuff with his wigan top on talking about trent barret and wigan.

Maybe you didn't give enough information first time round.
It sounded, from what you were saying, that the same group of people who said Carmont was crap were also slagging Barrett off (and if they were, who'd listen to their opinion on anything?).
Either way, my original point stands. Other Aussie fans disagree that Carmont is crap. We need to wait and see.

carmont is an average player, honest and hard working, but nothing exceptional.also he is 29yrs old and without a club in the nrl.i wish the lad well hope he plays well for us.i wonder what peoples reaction would have been if maurice had made such a signing?

At the worst he will be DV but much less expensive so i don't see how we can lose with this one personally. If we are looking at another player i hope we are looking to someone who can cover the halfbacks and maybe hooker. Don't think we should be looking at a prop as we have 5 already.

I can't understand this signing at all. He's (quite a lot) worse than Vaealiki. Fair enough if you couldn't afford any better, but I honestly think giving one of the youngsters a chance would be a better option.
Carmont is the kind of player I'd expect someone like Wakefield to sign, not Wigan. The petition to keep him was a pis take.

If it hasn't worked by now, it never will! I'm all for reaching out to a wider audience with our game but not at the expense of historical clubs in the homelands.

We will be running with a youngster as well as Carmont, that's how thin the backline is. And as we're recruiting with a lower budget than Wakey this year the simile is correct. For a short term signing it stacks up fine given the circumstances. As my old English teacher used to say - 'You can only shit with the arse you've got.'

Anybody that comes out with a statement like that is obviously trolling . If he is cheap, which by all accounts he is, and if he is solid and offers a bit more pace than Vaeleki (which he surely must ), than he is a good enough stop gap signing.
The truth is though that very few of the people that are slating him have seen him play enough to make a qualified statement as to how good he is. I would rather wait and see.

Which youngster would that be? The only young centre capable of playing at SL level is Goulding and he is not IMO ready for a full season in the starting 13.
But even if he were ready, what happens if he or Bailey gets injured?
We would have no reserve centres.
With this signing in a normal 17 I'd expect Bailey and Carmont to start in the centres with Goulding coming on later allowing Bailey to switch to second row to give Hansen or Hock a rest.
Also it means if either Hansen or Hock are injured we can move Bailey to 2nd row and play a Goulding/Carmont centre pairing and of course if either Bailey or Carmont are injured, then in comes Goulding into the starting 13.
So signing another experienced centre opens up a lot of flexabi9lity in the back line and 2nd row. It therefore makes perfect sense to me.
The real question is, is Carmont good enough? Time will tell but in a strange way signing Carmont is better for Goulding because Goulding will get more game time than he would if he were trying to get a game ahead of Matt King!
