And I really aren't joking here. When I told her we could go for your birthday, she laughed and said ok then. So we went last night.

Which is the nearest weekend mate? We might have a celebration in your honour. You can come if you like. ;)

We went to the Punjab Sweet Centre last night and it was really nice. I had a mild dish with lamb and spinach (can't remember the name of it) and mild it was not! I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to curries but it was the hottest curry I've ever eaten - very tasty though.

The poppadoms were ok and the pickle tray was very nice.

I am a lady and so, unlike some of the more uncouth members of the board, shall not be divulging any details of my toiletry habits.

Btw - not sure about it not being a 'whitey' curry place - the warm lemon scented napkins and individually wrapped chocolates are about as whitey as it gets!

It's white next door to work, that's good enough for me.

Ahem! 14th Feb happens to be Valentine's Day. That's less than 3 weeks away. You might even be able to swing a return visit.

This is it. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Went to the Punjab Sweet Centre on Thursday.

A mixed report.

The chapple kebabs were fecking gorgeous again - crammed full of chillis and coriander seeds. 10/10

Rotis were very nice. 8/10

The side salad I ordered was big and varied, if a little wet. 8/10

I had a lamb dish (whose name escapes me) but it was a 'traditional dish' with the lamb cooked on the bone. The lamb itself was lovely, it wasn't particularly spicy and what very little sauce there was was absolutely swimming in butter. That meant you just ate a pile of meat and because of the unavoidable butter it was lovely at first but left me feeling a bit queasy for a couple of hours after. 5/10

Our lass had a Punjabi chicken karahi (another one of the 'traditional' options). It was small pieces of chicken (many containing bones) and was again swimming in butter, so much so that it had a slightly cheesy smell and taste. It was so rich that she could only eat half. Because of that she'd give it 5/10.

There were ten others who ate there while we were there on Thursday dinner. None were whiteys. I did notice that most (and I noticed this before) ordered grilled meats and fish with a curry and salad almost as a side dish. The place does call itself a grill house too. Reckon I might give that a try next time.

Do you remember your very 1st curry.?

I always remember when i was about 12.. (33 years ago  ) a curry house opened in oxford road Gomersal...it was the only one outside Bradford, i think it was called fizanns..i remember the smell from a mile radius was awesome and the kebabs were very very hot, but the curry....hhmmm lamb or chicken was always on the bone and always had a good half inch of butter or ghee which had separated nicely from the sludge in the bottom....ahhh the good old days..the taste of that curry was pure artery clogging bliss....could Fizann have moved to the Punjab Sweet Centre ?...im gonna have to try out those chapple kebabs one lunchtime and see .. now the diets over.. :D
