Nafees was a couple of doors further down and also sold warmed-up pitta breads and curries consisting in the main of tomato powder. Nafees saving grace was that it's Onion Bhaji's were quite nice... similar to those served up at the Karachi in Bradford.
And if you ever wanted a curry with only a couple of small pieces of chicken or 'meat' (whatever that was!) at most, and consisting primarily of gristle, smothered in half a pint of oily gravy, there was always the Kaghan Valley at Headingley (now called Tariqs?) which was utterly disgusting fare.
Didn't care too much at the time though as I was usually p1ssed anyway.
It was the one I was thinking of. Tiny little place. I once bought a bottle of white wine there when vexed as its all they'd sell as take out (before the real ale place I think - or it was shut). They charged about a fiver and when I looked at the label it was Dutch wine.
I was ill the last time I went to Tariqs (though it could have been the ale) and went to it in the Kaghan Valley incarnation too, along with the equally bad Rajput kebab house near woodies.
Visited one of my favorite restaurants last night, the Samarkand in Heckmondwike, a small unlicensed restaurant above a gents hairdressers, take your own beer/wine and cash only payment...this is a hidden gem of a place, well worth a trip out for those of you who live a little nearer to Bradford centre....opens at 5.45pm closed mondays.
I would advise booking a table if visiting at weekends as this place is very popular.

More excellent fare at the Punjab on Listerhills Rd last night.
Poppadums and pickle tray was ordered by one of the culturally white within our group and I couldn't be @rsed making that point at the time. He enjoyed the mango chutney as it reminded him of jam.
I unusually ordered Seekh Kebab (8/10) as a starter which was quite delicious. Puig Aubert and Charmless Nerk ordered the Chapple Kebab which they both alleged was very hot. Bullseye and Gareth1 ordered some softcock starter each which I can't recall.
I also can't recall what my main dish was called exactly but it was very nice... keema with peas in it (medium strength)... I only ate half of it as I was completely knackered and falling asleep. It was worthy of another 8/10 mark though. Gareth1 and Bullseye both ordered softcock mild curries.
Gareth1 and Charmless Nerk both ate their food with knifes and forks as they don't feel confident enough to remove their cultural whitey shackles... not even temporarily.
The Punjab Sweet House really is very good. My only criticism is one of the curryees there can be a tad brusque with the service, especially when the place is busy. He also seemed to be indicating that we should all f**k off as soon as we'd finished eating as others were waiting for a table.
AP is less than 0.5% interested in the substandard Stupor League. England's substandard performances in the RLWC08 saw to that.

Not sure what G1 had for his main - but it had alot of fresh ginger in it and I thought it was pretty nice. The keema matter we had was excellent and not as hot as last time. I think Bullseye had fish masala.
Those chapple kebabs were very nice but cuffin' hot - they were chocka with red and green chillis.
