A year on
Great game of rugby league. Fantastic atmosphere, Wigan were breathtaking and dominant in all areas for the first 25 minutes, coupled with us making alot of dumb mistakes, then fortunately they brought McIlorum on which helped us back into the game. I thought some of the tries we scored to get us within two we're out of this world stuff. Towards the end we had to force it a little and we had a few things go wrong, i.e Monas kick on the first for King and Solomona going off who was causing havoc. Wigan were clinical in their eventual execution of us. Proud of Wire today and gave us a little glimpse to the future. Silverwood was awful as per, but I expect no less. Tomkins is a world class player and by far the best english player in SL. Wigan are a champion side and would be a worthy winner of taking our title as challenge cup. Good luck over the next month and a bit.
But what an atmosphere - when it was full, and everyone was packed in and you couldn't move, it was amazing. That's one of the reasons I like, from time to time, to go to the old grounds like Knowsley Road. They're from a byegone era. (Cough)

The new grounds are far better, with great facilities, the ability to see no matter where you are stood, or sat, but all too often there's one vital thing missing. Atmosphere. Central Park had masses of it, even there was only 12,000 on - a third full - it was great.

Do I miss CP? No, not really. We have to move on.

How anyone can call central park a dump is beyond me- It would still be in the top 4 or 5 rl grounds if it was still here today- it was far better than half the grounds currently in super league!!!

Looking at those pictures still brings a lump to my throat- like remembering a person you have lost and knowing that you'll never see them again, remembering those memories which now seem so far away!!

Central park did not have the facilities of the JJB, but it had tradition and character and history- sadly the JJB will never match it!! Even given the great facilities at the JJB- if i had a stark choice to make- to watch them at the JJB or to stand on the popular side or in the kop at CP, CP would win hands down every time!!! Long Live Central Park - She'll never be forgotten!!

As a non Wigan fan I recall going to the Wigan v Manly in 87, the atmosphere was brilliant with a fantastic display by you lot, almost as good as when we beat Queensland

Although I would have loved for CP to have been redeveloped, you can only paper over the cracks so much. Look at Knowsley Hole these days. Better to remember it for what it was and move on with the times.

I could write a book about my memories of Central Park.

My Dad still will never forgive those *&"*x?* 'so and so's' for selling CP.

Yes, it was old..........but it was also worth 2 points to Wigan at every game.

The atmosphere was also what made the Wigan v Oz matches the so called fourth test.

Books will no doubt be written about CP, and so they should !

I could walk you to the exact spot that I spent many a happy year there.

"Rathbones" end. (Kop end).
