The Wizards squad has more than ten players who have played for Warrington Wolves at Academy level or above including Chris Campbell and Alan Reddecliff who have both played Super League for them.
The Wizards gained a superb 48-20 win at Coventry Bears on Saturday afternoon that saw them move upto sixth place in the league table and will move into the top half of the table if they can overcome fifth placed Kippax in what promises to be a very exciting encounter.
Wizards Head Coach Chris Campbell said, “The game at Coventry really was a game of two halves for us; even though we were ahead 12-4 at the break we didn’t play anyway near as well as we could and our completion rate and discipline left a lot to be desired. We somehow managed to keep ourselves in front upto half time which gave us the opportunity to reflect and regroup. After some harsh words were said in the dressing room we went out for the second half really fired up and determined to play exciting rugby, this is what we did and we produced the best forty minutes of the season scoring some great tries and also putting in some great defensive work against a side who were third in the table.”
Campbell added, “We have now played ourselves back into contention in the league but we must continue to work hard and build on the last two games. We have three home games coming up now but need to just take each game as it comes. Kippax will provide us with a very stern test on Saturday having themselves gained a very good win at Hemel on Sunday and they also won at Valley Cougars a couple of weeks earlier to become the first team to win in Wales in the league this season. Both games between the sides last season were excellent closely fought encounters played in a great spirit and I don't envisage this one being any different. We know that we will have to be at our best if we want to gain the victory that would help us to move up the league ladder even further and we will be knuckling down in training to make sure we are in the best possible shape. The squad is getting stronger each week with players returning to full fitness so the lads in possession of the jersey know that they need to perform each week to hold onto it.”
