Leeds Akkies Rugby League club will have a new home for the 2010 Co-Operative Rugby League Conference season.

Following months of hard work behind the scenes, the Akkies committee has voted unanimously to become a part of the Old Modernians Association, based in Cookridge, North West Leeds.

By accepting membership of the Old Modernians Association, Leeds Akkies have now effectively become stakeholders rather than tenants for the first time in the club's seven-year history.

Akkies chairman Rob Potts is delighted with the new partnership: "This is absolutely fantastic news, and a just reward for all the hard work behind the scenes at the Akkies and Old Modernians. The magnitude of this partnership cannot be understated, now the Akkies are a part of the Old Modernians Association, we are stakeholders in our own future and can plan ahead with confidence and stability. In short, we will finally have a proper home."

Andy Lowe, Director of Rugby for Old Modernians and himself no stranger to Rugby League following a spell at Keighley Cougars in the 1990s, is also looking forward to what Leeds Akkies will bring to the Association: "Old Modernians are pleased and proud to welcome Leeds Akkies Rugby League as part of our association. Along with the football, cricket and rugby union sections, Leeds Akkies will now have a base from which I'm sure they will enjoy plenty of success at Old Modernians over the coming years."

With the new home now established, both the Akkies mens and womens teams are now looking forward to the upcoming season with great anticipation, with pre-season training beginning on Wednesday 31st March.

If you or anyone you know are interested in playing summer Rugby League this season, then Leeds Akkies RLFC would love to hear from both men and women, regardless of playing experience or ability. Please get in touch with the Akkies recruitment manager, Dom Varley at dom.varley@hotmail.comor 07974 982620.

Udate - Leeds Akkies have settled in well at their new home with wins e.g. for 1st team, the reserves and womens team last weekend.

Now we are trying to set up a junior team - age group to be decided partly dependent on what age group kids turn up at one or two big events planned ...more news of these later in the summer.

But for now do you have a child living in Leeds that wants to have a go at this great game of Rugby League?

Or as an adult would you like to help with some of the many duties it takes to get a new junior club together?

If so, please contact leeds Akkies on their website or contact junior secretary Graham Littler (selittler@btinternet.com)
