Warrington Wizards have a plum home tie against Co-operative Championship One side Swinton Lions in the Carnegie Challenge Cup 3rd Round on Friday evening. Kick off is 8.00pm at Wilderspool Stadium. Admission is Adults £6 and Concessions £3. Tickets are available from Warrington Wolves Wolfware Shop or you can pay at the turnstile.
The Wizards put themselves in the hat for a crack against a professional side with a cracking comeback win against the British Army in the 2nd Round and will now be hoping that they can cause an upset and defeat their higher league opponents and put themselves into the 4th Round and a possible tie with Super League neighbours Warrington Wolves.
Player/Coach Chris Campbell is relishing the opportunity of playing against one of his former clubs. He said, “To get a home draw at this stage of the competition against a pro side is fantastic for the club and everybody involved at the Wizards is looking forward to the game. We will probably be going into the game as the underdogs in most peoples’ eyes but the players will be really giving it their best shot and if we play to our full potential then there is no reason why we cannot pull of a shock win. We will give Swinton the respect that they deserve but once we are on that field we will be getting amongst them and hopefully we will come out on top.”
Campbell added, “Swinton have several quality players in their squad who have played at the highest level but we have plenty of talent in our side and the lads are very hungry for success themselves so it promises to be a fantastic occasion. I hope that the people of Warrington turn up on the night and get behind us.”
For the game against Swinton, Campbell will hope to have centre Danny Shaw available after injury ruled him out of the British Army game. Winger Craig Middlemore, centre Graham Healey and stand off Anthony Braide are also in the nineteen man squad although winger Darren Forshaw misses out though injury.
