RED HOT GREEN MAKES HIS MARK

Young utility player Craig Green represents the future face of Bramley Buffaloes according to coach Mark Butterill.

The 21-year-old joined Bramley from West Leeds in the close season and he’s already making a big impact in a team that’s hoping to build on its 100% record with a home game against Huddersfield Rangers on Saturday (2.30pm).

“Craig and Aidy Manley, who also joined us from West Leeds, are two kids who I hope will provide the spine of the team for many years to come,” explained Butterill who has already seen his charges see off Warrington Wizards, Nottingham Outlaws and Liverpool Buccaneers in convincing style.

“I didn’t know anything about Craig when he arrived to be honest as he was referred to us by John Elliker but I was a fan by the end of his first training session.

“He’s proved himself very flexible on the park and has already performed at prop and second row and it’s in the latter position that I view him as making his mark.

“His performances have been top drawer,” added Butterill of Green who didn’t pick up a rugby ball until he was 15 with Milford’s under 16s.

Craig commented “I was always into football but I took to rugby straight away and I’ve enjoyed every second at Bramley so far despite it being a big step up in standard.

“There are so many good experienced players in the team and some of the rugby we’ve been playing has been outstanding. The performance at Warrington was immense and then we put a strong Nottingham side to the sword in front of a big crowd.

“I was used to playing in front of one man and a dog last season!” added Craig who works as a plasterer for his father’s firm in Moortown.

As for the season ahead Craig has no doubts: “This bunch of lads can go all the way. There’s so much spirit and confidence in the side but we know it’s going to be tough to last the distance and win the Grand Final.

“I’ve joined Bramley to be part of a successful squad and improve myself as a player and to date it’s all going to plan!” concluded Craig.
