A gutsy final performance from the lads. York only scored their last try just before the final hooter so we were in a position to get an upset win. Every one of the players performed well and I really don't want to single anyone out for mom. Attack showed real promise and defence by and large was good. Unfortunately a number of the tries conceded were down to the perennial problem of a lack of concentration at critical moments. That really has been a story of the season as can be seen by picking up yet another bonus point. The team managed to get under the skin of York who were incredibly testy presumably expecting us to just roll over and capitulate. It also led to continual caterwauling by their fans.

Otherwise York is a great place to visit to spend a weekend and see a game. Lots of interest in the city and some fabulous pubs. Particularly enjoyed the York Tap in the station and Brigantes near Michaelgate. It was the last league game to be played at the ground and I suspect not many tears will be shed over its demise. It didn't seem to have changed much since I was last there for the infamous blizzard game between Fulham and York nearly 25 years ago. The ground is possibly nearer John O'Groats than the centre of York but I had a good chat in the taxi on the way back with the driver who had played for York Acorn. Like everyone else I met up there a real nice fellah.

Apparently it was also John Paxton's 100th game for the club. Congratulations to him for reaching that milestone
