Seeing Kevin Walters giving that interview after the match on Saturday evening I finally started to warm to him.

Replacing Mick Potter was always going to be a challenge and having not got off to the best of starts I never got the feeling he was completely in charge of his own destiny.

When the owner started making rash statements when it looked like the play-offs were going to be missed, it hardly sounded a ringing endorsement of Walters but now we have made it and got a win in the play-offs, how far will he need to get the team before his first season could be viewed as successful?

Sorry, but Kev's first season could only be viewed as a success if we make the final.
Last year we came third, even if we beat Huddersfield I don't think 2 playoff wins would beat a third place finish.

Perry is just the tip of the squad selection issue, that and poor results from a better squad than last year's.

A top 4 finish and a good run in the cup/playoffs would vindicate him next year - but not this one.

While compared to last year this year is a poor one, I'd also add that we started poor and stadily improved, there is no way we could have expected to win our last 2 games, but somehow Walters has got them up for the games and we should go inot Friday full of confidence!

So while I agree with you in part that it has been a poor season we have made the play-offs and Walters deserves a little credit for that, given the start we had!

I suppose his defence could be based on the fact the raised expectation was as a result of Potter getting results rather than his potential as a coach?

If Walters gets the credit for the wins at the end of the season, he also packs the blame for the poor start...

I think it was me kind of making excuses for him.

I always backed him, he has had a tough act to follow in Potter who did an amazing job and probably over accheived. I think that if we get a result at Hudds we can view this year as a good season and look to Walters second year in charge, going for a place in the top six.
