HALIFAX'S Said Tamghart has lit the fuse on a potentially explosive homecoming in Toulouse tomorrow night (8.0), saying he believes there is an element of racism in his persistent omission from the French national side.

I'll second that!

While he may have a point about the country having an issue with race as a societal thing - I don't know - I can't see that him not getting a go is anything to do with his familial background. I just don't reckon he's good enough.
Went OK last night, mind.

What he says about the French wanting everyone to be the same is true, but it's as much discrimination against Algerian decendants as it is against Catalans and Alsacians. Just over 100 years ago French was a minority language in the country, but a sence of standardising the country saw non-French indiginous languages marginalised by the Parisian-centred govt.
So I don't disagree with some of what he says, but it's just the way the French system works, not racism.

It is true that France is not has tolerant toward migrants than England, though recent trends are not great in England :( .
In any case I don't think he would have been omitted for this reason. It is quite unfortunate for him to say he does not go along well with French players, he is the kind of player which Toulouse could be interested to recruit.

I think you would struggle to find a better impact player outside SL than tamghart, Ive always been impressed by him and have often wondered what else he needs to do to get selected.

I think his Algerian descent has nothing to do with his past absence in the French team as there are other good and praised French players with North African origin like Fakir or Saddaoui.

However his public outburst does not give a good signal regarding his possible attitude/relationship with other French players and this would worry me if I were Bobby Goulding. You certainly would think twice before bringing in the team a player who publicly says he does not fit well with the French players...

Really that is a pity :(
