All new faces will be made very welcome at a club that has significant plans in place for the future as will players who may be looking to test themselves at a higher level than they may have been playing.

Unfortunately not.

The bones of last years 2nds are still around but a combination of long term injuries in the 1st team, losing a couple to NCL teams (lads have now moved up as cover), some 2nd team retirements, some of the 18's taking a break, going to university, academy rugby etc etc means that we'd be a bit thin on the ground at the start of the season and felt that wasn't fair on the team but also to the other teams in the league. That's not to say we won't be looking to play a 2nd team during the season in some friendlies, plans are underway for that it's just that at this point it wasn't viable for the above reasons.

shame about the seconds but makes sense. Good luck for the season from a fellow Ashtoner , maybe we'll get another cup game against you this year :)

And to you, hopefully you can carry on where you left off last season.

We do seem to get drawn together a lot don't we, so might see you then?

An update on this:
We've started the 2nd team up again and have the basis of a squad coming together, we're looking forward to a couple of friendlies over the next couple of months.

Training is Tuesday 6.45pm St Edmund Arrowsmith school all weather pitches and Wednesday 6.30pm Robin Park Arena (pitches at side of running track).

All new faces will be made most welcome.

pm me for more details.

Rochdale Cobras 'A' 22 - Ashton Bears 'A' 24.

In a game that was as close as the scoreline suggests Ashton 'A' pulled off a hard fought win at Rochdale Cobras 'A'. This was a great game from these new start teams and one that was played in tremendous spirit throughout. The referee didn't blow up once for either foul play or dissent which was great testiment to the discipline and commitment of both sides. Rochdales strong running forwards posed lots of questions of Ashton defence which held firm. Ashton in turn tried to play an open game throughout and it was a score close to the end which finally tipped the balance Ashtons way.

Credit must go to both sets of players for an enjoyable afternoon and overall both clubs can take a lot from this game with lots of things to be worked on. The after match hospitality at The Flying Horse pub was excellent and I'm sure everyone will be looking forward to the return fixture which is planned for mid-March.
